An Epic Battle is Upon Us

September 8, 2007 - They’re drawing up sides, sharpening their swords and preparing for the epic battle of all times. A new day is upon us. What is the reason for this battle? It’s, The Petraeus Report.

The report we’ve all been waiting for, the key to our continued involvement, or to our drawdown of troops, in Iraq. The report that will finally give us the answers to the question, “Should we stay in Iraq?”

So the Bush Administration has been on their campaign for a while now. George did his famous surprise visit to Iraq. You have to wonder if the reason he shows up there unannounced is because he might be overwhelmed by all the roses the Iraqi people would be foisting on him. Certainly, too many roses could be detrimental to his health and safety.

After surveying the situation for himself from safe inside the hangar, he then headed down to Austria, (note, it was really Australia but George heard it wrong) to speak to OPEC. (Again, George blundered. He was speaking to APEC). Then miracle of miracles, after his speech, someone saved him before he walked off the edge of the stage to his certain demise. When I heard that my first thought was who benefits from saving him?

He caps off the day by telling South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun that he can’t declare peace with South Korea until North Korean President Kim Jong Il gets rid of his weapons. I think George thinks it’s really just Korea, with a Northern Korea and a Southern Korea, just like there is a Northern and Southern California. “Or as North Dakota and South Dakota are both part of Dakota!”, he would argue.

And then there are the Democrats, armed and ready to stand up to this administration. They have their GAO report that says Iraq has only met 3 of their 18 benchmarks. With that they are now ready to stomp their feet and holler about how the war isn’t working and we should bring home the troops and if we don’t then we will have more blood on our hands for a war that we never should have been in in the first place.

This even though they voted for the war so they wouldn’t look like wimps and refused to defund the war because they wanted to appear tough, these, the same people who took impeachment off the table so they wouldn’t look partisan. The ones who voted for new wiretapping laws that legalized what the administration was doing illegally prior to the law, to show that they too are tough on terror, then letting us all know how appalled they are about the shape of our democracy, the trouncing of the constitution, the loss of privacy, civil rights, habeas corpus, and on and on and on.

And as the microphone moves on they are still talking but we just can’t hear them anymore. Sort of like parents with children. While the children run around the house screaming at the tops of their lungs, the parents are relaxing with coffee and a newspaper. The parents simply don’t hear them anymore. That is how it has become with the Democratic Party. I was asked this question once and I’ll never forget it: “If there were a sound that never changed frequency, pitch or volume, what would it sound like?” The answer is silence. Without some contrast, there is nothing to hear. Silence is what we are really hearing from the Democratic Party. Talk without action is just talk. Impeachment would be heard. Enforcing subpoenas would be heard. Defunding the war would be heard.

So, anyway, back to the battle. The battle is truly on and if I were to make a prediction, I’m not psychic mind you, so I could be wrong, but if I were to make a prediction, I’d say that it goes down something like this:
Bush will continue his blurring of reality by using 9/11/07 to discuss our progress in Iraq and how we are making great strides….Iraq…9/11 …Iraq…9/11...Iraq…9/11…

The Democrats will cry foul concerning The Petraeus Report because he didn’t write it, the Bush Administration did. Someone will start referring to it as “The Betray Us Report”. The Bush Administration will say they simply prepared the report from the information gathered from Petraeus. The Democrats will ask, “How can you use a report you wrote for your justification of continued presence in Iraq?” The Administration will respond, “The Democrats want to politicize this. They are weak on terror and cannot be trusted with the security of our nation!” The Democrats will say, “huh uh. …are not.”

Then the Democrats will throw in the towel with their final word: “Well we’ll just see what the American people think about this come November, 2008.”

Meanwhile, the Administration then finishes interpreting what they meant by their own report and “The Decider” will determine the best thing to do will be to “stay the course”. But of course he’ll change the language so as to not let Al-Qaeda onto the plan. The Democrats will continue their protests, their threats, their screams, their kicking and their hollering while they cast their votes to give Bush every penny of the additional money he’s asking for. Thereby, making sure we know that they are against this war, and that they are the real supporters of our troops.
